Aspect Ratios

Hello,

Looks like we're going with a cinematic ratio to add to the mood of the film. This will be 2.39:1 which is a standard ratio for many films you go to the movies to see. The other standard is 1.85:1 which is just a bit wider than HD16:9 but maybe not wide enough for what we're doing. Below are some diagrams to show you the aspect ratio...

As for storyboards, Ricky has done an amazing job drawing over 150 boards...big thx to him. If you'd like to make your own templates and give his hand a rest, go in to Photoshop and select the marquee tool. In the tool options along the top, change the style to "Fixed Aspect Ratio" and type 2.39 in the width attribute and 1 in the height attribute. Now when you click and drag the marquee tool you will have a perfectly proportional box that you can make any size you wish.

I put some boards up on the forum. Also created some new threads for character designs and for the boards themselves. Check it.

Photobucket and Skype

I created a photobucket account for us to use to host images, and I sent out an email with all the info in that. I don't want to post the login and password on this blog, though, for obvious reasons - so let me know if you didn't get the email.

You can host images here that you can then post to the forum.

I've been messing around a bit with Skype and I think that's probably a good way to go for making online chats/meetings. Seems simple enough, and I think everyone will be able to just sign on and join a group chat. I think it's worth a shot, anyway.

So first things first, you have to download and install Skype, then establish a "Skype Name" for yourself. I think everyone should reply in the forum thread I created - not here - after doing so with their skype name so everyone else can add them to their contact list.

Forum for your pleasure

Not that kind of pleasure, ya sick bastehd. I've set up a forum for us to use on my site, if you're all interested in using it. I figure the layout is a bit easier to navigate than a blog with more and more topics/posts being added - but maybe that's just me? *shrug* I know I said last week I'd have it up by the following day, but of course I couldn't deliver on that :(. Don't hurt me!

Check it out, make an account, and give some feedback! I'll definitely add more features and themes to make it more appealing if we decide to use it. At the moment, I disabled file/image uploading, as my host (nearlyfreespeech) probably isn't the best one to use for hosting images. With their plan, it'll rack up a bill quite fast. So, that means if you want to post an image, you'll have to host it elsewhere and link back to it on the forum. I bet you can upload it here and link it there, if that helps.

If this forum thing ends up working out for us, perhaps we can move it to another host that won't destroy our wallets for high bandwidth use - if we want to upload images straight to the forum, of course. Have fun.

Character Stuffs

Hey guys,

I'm going to be out of town this week so I figured I'd post some stuff I was workin on. I don't really have a coherent-looking set of storyboards like I was hoping to, but here's a couple of character sketches I was working on. Nothing much, but I figured I should post up something at least. And yeah I know a couple of the heads ended up looking like dinosaurs lol.Was trying to give him an old-mannish look, I think we should give him jowls or a ton of wrinkles or something. Anyways here ya go:

I wanted to throw this up here - it's from a series of 26 shorts about animals in the Australian outback, and if this clip is any indication, its pretty effing solid. I really love the softness to the render. Just wanted to share.
